Ti Amo Valentino!

During Paris Fashion Week, Valentino's runway show was my absolute favorite. The signature ruffles and red were so appealing and feminine. Even though Valentino Garavani is no longer designing, designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paulo Piccioli make flawless clothing. Chanel had an amazing collection too, but Valentino amazed me a tad more. Here are some of my favorites:

H&M's Spring 2010 Garden Collection also included ruffles and red. It resembles Valentino's Fall Collection so much that this collection is definitely a must have. Not only is the Garden Collection super cute, but it is made with environmentally adapted materials such as recycled polyester, organic cotton, and organic linen. Click here to check out H&M's Garden Collection.

This dress at H&M is $49.95, but is well worth it!

This dress is a little less, at $39.95.

Barely There

This is the first year I really inspected color and style trends at all of the award shows. They say the Academy Awards is the biggest fashion show of the year and now I know why. Many celebrities set the nude color trend at the Oscars, and the color looked great on everyone that chose to wear it. This is a great example of the trickle down theory because now we will all be searching for that perfect blush colored dress. In my opinion, Demi Moore and Anna Kendrick had the best dresses. Other stars that wore barely there colors include Luciana Barroso, Miley Cyrus, Amanda Seyfried, Cameron Diaz, and Kate Winslet.

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Demi Moore in Atelier Versace

Luciana Barroso in Salvatore Ferragamo

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham

I just so happened to find the perfect nude colored dress on express.com. It retails for $69.90 and is a shorter, more wearable version than the ones we saw at the Oscars. Express is one of my favorite stores and their clothing is comfortable and flattering. I happen to like the Strawberry color better, but if you want to keep up with the trend, try the nude.

Costume Extravaganza

Last Wednesday, I took a little field trip over to FIDM's 18th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition. Not only did I get to see this exhibit, but FGI (Fashion Group International) was hosting “A Night at the Movies,” where we were able to take a private tour and hear an expert interactive panel discussion with the pros. There were over 100 costumes from over two dozen of last year’s movies. Kevin Jones, the exhibition curator, led the private tour and was very knowledgeable about all of the costumes.

My favorite costumes were from Inglourious Basterds, Pirate Radio, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Anna Sheppard was the costume designer for Inglourious Basterds. This was by far my favorite movie from last year. The exhibition included Diane Kruger’s black beaded dress and Melanie Laurent’s famous red dress that they both wore at the end of the film. This movie was very memorable for me, so it was like I got to be a part of it by seeing the actual costumes worn by these actresses.

Pirate Radio’s costuming really caught my attention because the costumes were creative and fun and set in the 60’s. Joanna Johnston was the costume designer for this movie. My favorite pieces were a blue long-sleeved bridesmaid dress with a big bow in front, the white wedding dress, and a multi-colored suit jacket.

I was really inspired by the whole 60's vibe. I love that era, as you can see by my love of Betsey Johnson and Andy Warhol from my first blog. If you go to betseyjohnson.com she has a fun 60's style dress that reminded me of the blue one in Pirate Radio. The black one is on sale for 50% off right now, for $187.50.

The last set of costumes that really caught my attention was from The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, costumed by Monique Prudhomme. She spoke after the private tour and let us in on some of her secrets, which was very interesting. The costumes were so creative. My favorite was a corset with colorful bows and butterflies.

I really recommend going to this exhibit if you’re interested in movies and/or fashion. It was exciting to be so close to the costumes I saw in the movies last year. FIDM’s exhibit is free and open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm.
